This is an exceptional Victorian French Normandy lace bedspread dating to 1890-1900. It is large, measuring 72 x 98" and … more This is an exceptional Victorian French Normandy lace bedspread dating to 1890-1900. It is large, measuring 72 x 98" and the handwork and details are truly stunning. The colors are cream and light ecru (This coverlet is sitting on top of a loose woven cream blanket in the photos) and it has many patchwork patterns of various shapes and designs. The center star is not a design that I've seen before - it is very "compass rose" like, and makes this a wholly unique piece. It may have been a custom design or related somehow to the livelihood of the family. On the pillow section, there is another, almost cartographic symbol. The circular floral medallions are embroidered with raised satin stitch and tiny lace inserts - the stitch work is incredible. It is all simply gorgeous. The drop on the sides is 17", and the edge ruffles go around the entire spread. It is an incredible sampler of Belgian/French lace. The condition is wonderful, especially considering the age. It is exactly as I found it with no attempts to clean or launder. There are tiny separations in the lace at one corner where the drop is, and one area of repair and a few small holes nearby - see photos. But it is basically very, very sound. - Upon inspection, If you decide not to move forward with the purchase, you or your agent must refuse the item at the time of pickup/delivery from the seller
