One of several pieces from the same vendor, all listed separately in our shop — including a matching sauce tureen set with underplate.
The form is full Rococo in ambition: the body deeply lobed and paneled, the handles boldly modeled in acanthus leaf, and the lid crowned with a sculptural artichoke or cauliflower finial — a classic device in French porcelain of the period and a reliable indicator of quality. Molded scrollwork cartouches punctuate the body between the fluted panels, giving the piece considerable presence even before the decoration is considered.
The rose floral decoration — scattered bouquets and sprigs in a warm deep pink against white — is consistent across lid and body, lighter and more dispersed in arrangement than on the smaller sauce tureen, giving this larger piece an airiness that suits its scale.
In excellent antique condition throughout.
