The mortar is made of turned wood, most likely tiger oak, which displays beautiful knots and rings, and a warm patina that can only be acquired with age. The piece has plenty of character marks and age cracks that only add to its beauty. It comes with a removable copper bowl liner and a heavily used pestle. This extra sturdy and heavy piece can be displayed or used to hold a plant. A drainage hole has been added through the copper liner and wood base, making it suitable for use as a planter. It is a fantastic show of woodworking craftsmanship and a gorgeous example of primitive industrial apothecary design. The mortar is 11.5 inches tall with a diameter of 9 inches, while the pestle measures 10 inches in length and 2 inches in width at its base. See less
