Artist Biography
Leon Wyczólkowski first studied at Warsaw Drawing Class under Aleksander Kamienski and Wojciech Gerson. He then studied at Munich Academy under Alexander Wagner and at Cracow Fine Arts School under Jan Matejko. He traveled to Paris twice. He lived in Lwów initially, then moved to Warsaw in 1881. From 1883-1894, he lived in Ukraine and in Podole (east Poland). In 1895, he moved to Cracow and became a teacher at Fine Arts School. He was traveling a lot. He was a founder-member of Polish Artists Society "Art". He had a lot of exhibitions in Poland and abroad. He spent from 1929-1936, at Poznan and Goscieradz, commuting to Warsaw, where he led the engraving faculty at Fine Arts Academy. He painted landscapes, portraits, genre scenes and still lives, especially flowers. He used pastel technique willingly. He was also an outstanding engraver.
