Vintage Dutch ‘Gouda Style’ porcelain kitchen apothecary jar/pharmacy vase with blue monochrome decoration including a cherub face and two snakes flanking an epigraphic cartouche identifying the contents as ‘A CICHOREI’ which translates as ‘chicory’. Handmade by Flora Keramiek in Hardenberg, Holland. Flora Keramiek was started in 1945 in Gouda after WWII ended. The owner and founder Mr. F. Eikenboom had already been involved in producing plateel (painted earthenware) in Gouda since 1927. In 1974 the factory was sold, and production was transferred in 1980 from Gouda to a newly built factory in Hardenberg until 1996 when production ended.
