Incredible Gallery poster from Rijksmuseum Van Gogh in Amsterdam with the color woodcut design of Edvard Munch's ANGST (1896). This 1985 exhibition featured "Prints from the Epstein Collection". Framed in a minimal profile black metal frame with glass.
"titel werk: angst, 1896, kleuren houtsnede"
Munch believed in the necessity for art to depict "living people who breathe and feel, suffer and love." Many art critics feel that Anxiety is closely related to Munch's more famous piece, The Scream (1893). The faces show despair and the dark colors show a depressed state. Many critics also believe it's meant to show the emotions of heartbreak and sorrow.
Munch often explored a single subject through the techniques of drypoint, etching, lithography, or woodcut. With the capacity to produce multiple works from a single plate or woodblock, printmaking enabled him to experiment with his imagery. By altering color, line, texture, and composition, Munch drastically changed the appearance and emotional impact of a given subject.
