A richly detailed P. Buckley Moss limited edition print depicting a horse-drawn carriage arriving at the French Market in New Orleans’ French Quarter. Architectural details, period dress and Moss’s distinctive narrative style give the scene a wonderfully nostalgic sense of place, while its warm, muted palette makes it especially easy to incorporate into a collected interior.
Numbered 446/1000, the work dates to 1984 and carries an especially interesting history of signatures. In addition to the artist’s signature associated with the original print, the piece was signed again on the glazing in 1987 and 2016. Together, the three signatures document a connection to the artist spanning more than three decades and make this example particularly interesting for a P. Buckley Moss collector.
The New Orleans subject is also appealing. While Moss is particularly associated with scenes of rural and traditional American life, here she turns her attention to the architecture and street life of the French Quarter, centering the composition on the historic French Market and a horse-drawn carriage.
Presented under glass with a wide warm neutral mat, fine contrasting inner border and substantial dark wood frame. Its traditional presentation works beautifully in Southern, traditional, equestrian and layered collected interiors.
