Volckstedt was best known for its lace figurines that started to be manufactured in the mid-nineteenth century.

The flirtatious body stance, posturing as meekness, borders on sauciness. The shape of the eyebrows together with the heart shaped mouth in bright red lipstick betrays 1940s make-up fashion, which makes this piece all the more amusing and a true witness to fashion history.

Her mauve bodice reflects it's male companion's vest (listed separately). The presumed bashfulness appears to be in response to the latter's wooing in this courtship narrative.
