Resting on a heart shaped base, this charming statuette was manufactured by Volckstedt, established in Thuringia in 1762 by princely decree. Volckstedt was best known for its lace figurines that started to be manufactured in the mid-nineteenth century.
The delicacy of workmanship and the precision of painted details are unsurpassed.
Sporting red heels, reserved to the aristocracy in the French court in the late eighteenth century, this courtier's pose is one of wooing. The accompanying female figurine (listed separately) appears to confirm the courtship narrative. Alone or together, they (it) would make an unique Valentine day's gift!
The mark indicates that this piece was manufactured between 1945 - and 1951
