Absolutely spectacular oversized vintage art-glass centerpiece bowl measuring an enormous 20¼ inches across and weighing approximately 13 pounds.

This is not a delicate little decorative dish — it is a substantial, sculptural piece of glass art with tremendous visual presence.

The shallow circular form is created in rich deep black glass with a beautifully glossy surface, providing a dramatic backdrop for a free-flowing abstract composition of colorful glass decoration. Sweeping lines in soft blue, green, rust, amber and white travel across the surface, punctuated by striking clusters of yellow, orange and white millefiori/murrine-style floral accents.

The result is wonderfully spontaneous and artistic, with almost a mid-century abstract-expressionist quality. Depending upon the viewing angle and available light, the glossy black glass creates reflections and depth that make the decoration appear to float across the surface.

At more than 20 inches in diameter, its scale is exceptional. Displayed alone on a dining table, coffee table, console, credenza or large kitchen island, it immediately becomes the focal point of the room. It would also be spectacular displayed upright on a substantial plate stand as a piece of decorative glass art.

The form and decorative techniques are reminiscent of Italian and Murano art glass, particularly pieces incorporating colorful murrine and applied glass decoration; however, because the bowl is unsigned and retains no identifying label, I am offering it as vintage Murano-style / studio art glass rather than attributing it to a specific maker or glasshouse.

Condition: Beautiful vintage condition with no chips, cracks or repairs. The glass remains exceptionally glossy, bright and visually striking. Any very minor surface wear consistent with age and previous display does not detract from its presentation.

Its combination of monumental scale, dramatic black glass, colorful abstract decoration and substantial weight makes this an especially impressive statement piece for collectors of vintage art glass, Italian-inspired décor, Mid-Century Modern interiors and contemporary eclectic design.

A truly fabulous piece — and at over 20 inches across, one that is difficult to overlook.
