The Mid Century Modernist hardcover art book with linen wrapped outer binding, monochrome embossed front cover board art, and dust jacket is published by Crown Publishers Inc., printed in The United States in 1957 by York Litho Co., Andy Perni technical supervisor. It features a monograph survey of lithograph prints of the poster artworks of Pablo Picasso, edited and with introduction authored by Joseph K. Foster.

Pablo Picasso ( 1881 - 1973 ) was a Spanish born painter, sculptor, printmaker, ceramicist, poet and playwright who spent most of his life in France. He is regarded as one of the most important and influential artists of The Twentieth Century. Exceptionally prolific throughout the course of his long life, Picasso achieved universal renown and immense fortune for his revolutionary artistic accomplishments, and became ond of the most well known figures in 20th Century Art.

On of the lesser known aspects of Picasso's many-faceted genius is his mastery of the art of the poster. His work in this field is revolutionary and far reaching. Published with the approval of the artist, this landmark volume contains lithographic reproductions of virtually all his important work in this field at the time of publishing. The 24 posters, the originals of which many were supplied by Picasso, are faithfully reproduced in his original colors.

The introduction traces the development of French poster art and analyses the forces of which Picasso draws in the development of his poster techniques. In addition, it contains informal, biographical material about the artist that helps to understand his technical characteristics.

The rare out of print 1st edition large format Mid Century Modernist art book measures 10 3/4" W X 13 1/4" H X 1/2" D, with 84 pages. It features 24 full-color full page lithograph print illustrations, plus an additional 12 black-and-white lithograph print illustrations in the introduction, and detailed text descriptions of each of the 24 poster plates.

It is in excellent vintage condition consistent with age, use, light signs of handling, and some visible light to moderate wear to the dust jacket. There are several small tears to the dust jacket outer edges that have been repaired with transparent archival tape. The poster illustration pages are very clean.
