We are delighted to offer for sale this absolutely stunning, very rare, original antique victorian shannon file co ltd, tambour fronted desk in walnut with a certificate of authentication from the british antique exporters limited what a desk! i’ve never seen another like it, it clearly is the finest quality. The desk was of course made by the geniuses at the shannon file co, they produced some of the most complicated and intricately made desks in the victorian era. They exhibited in the royal jubilee exhibition in manchester 1887, the desk is made from exquisite burr walnut with internal satinwood drawer fronts and panels, the desk top is hand dyed leather with gold leaf tooling and there are two butlers slip serving trays, these were designed for your “butler” to serve drinks and snacks on to protect the desk top the sale includes a laminated certificate which reads as follows. “this oak wooton rotary tambour roll top desk, has been examined and authenticated by the british antique exporters limited of queen elizabeth avenue burgess hill in the county of west sussex england who hereby guarantee its date of production circa 1880” the desk also has the original plaque which reads “the shannon desk shannon file co ltd ropemaker st london” and lastly the registration plaque to the read dated 1889. Condition wise, this desk is absolutely exquisite, there are normal age and use related patina marks here and there as you would expect but nothing that detracts for the charm and charisma, quite the opposite in fact. The desk includes the original functioning key, all the internal drawers are present and some drawer lining dividers dimensions height:- 105.5cm width:- 132cm depth:- 79.5cm please note all measurements are taken at the widest point. Condition please view the very detailed pictures as they form part of the pertaining to the condition. Please note vintage period and original items such as leather seating will always have natural patina in the form of creasing and wear, we recommend annual waxing to ensure no moisture is lost, also hand dyed leather is not recommended to sit in direct sunlight for prolonged periods of time as it will dry out and fade. This piece is attributed to the mentioned designer/maker. It has no attribution mark and no
official proof of authenticity,
however it is well documented in design history. I take full responsibility for any authenticity
