One of two absolutely stunning highly stylized Art Deco vases of the Utrecht school 1930s - 1950s, attributed to Konrad Mertens (1889-1953) an important contributor to de Vier Padde Stoelen (Four Mushrooms), Kennemerland, and de Zwing, before forming his own Kunstpotterij Mertens in 1932.
Vibrant color and glazing, intricate color overlays, masterful handiwork.
The stylized M backstamp is indicative of Mertens, although there is no associated provenance to either of the two vases. The techinique is, however, also indicative of Mertens' work.
Very rare pieces for the USA market.
