A tabletop sculpture depicting a Buddha hand in a "mudra" or hand position. Indonesia, mid-20th Century.
The hand depicts the "Abhaya" mudra or position, which symbolizes fearlessness. The sculpture is hand-carved out of black volcanic basalt rock, and mounted in a made-to-measure black metal stand.
