Fabulously stunning Ming-inspired mahjong game table set handcrafted from solid mahogany wood. The table is raised on sumptuous cabriole legs with hand carved inward scrolled feet, bowed curvilinear apron and hand carved tendril motif on each knee. There is one hidden drawer on each side of the table which provides room for game tiles or other small items. The snug fitting tabletop’s frame lifts off (see photo 8) and can be turned over to create a recessed tabletop for Mahjong or games incorporating dice or cards. Flip it over again to create a smooth top for use as a small breakfast table or when entertaining, an overflow dining table. The set includes four matching chairs with wooden bevel frame, curvilinear apron all around; chow-inspired legs with horse hoof feet on the front and H-stretcher connecting the back legs for structural integrity. Each chair has a very comfortable attached hand embroidered silk cushion seat. The set was handcrafted using traditional mortise and tenon joinery; solid mahogany wood throughout with a hand applied natural finish that has touches of random intentional distressing enhancing the extraordinary beauty of the set. The set measures as follows:

Chair Seats: 16½” x 15¾” W/D; seat cushion height 2¼”; seat-to-floor height 19½”

In overall excellent condition with age-appropriate wear. One chair’s stile, on the lower end closer to the seat, has been glued (see photo 7) when we discovered a hairline crack and chose to preemptively remedy the situation. It is in excellent sturdy condition as a result. Of note, the silk hand embroidered upholstered seats have experienced fading over the years which does not affect their beauty or utility. I mention this because it may look like the seats have stains when in fact it is the light golden taupe hue of the thread, used in the embroidery work, which has faded hence giving the appearance of stains (see photo 5). Fading varies from seat to seat and also depending on lighting in a room. Lastly, there is a slight wearing of the silk on one of the chair seats that is seen in photo 12 that is mostly indiscernible and the size of a baby pea. Unknown maker.
