This petite and unique chairside chest was made by Columbia Manufacturing Co. The company was in business from the late 1800's until the 1980's in Louisville, KY. This style and size of chest has also been called a Bachelors Chest. It could also grace a small entryway and make quite a stunning statement!
We are not the original owners but as best as I can tell (based on the 4-digit number stamp underneath the chest), it was made in the 18th week of 1952. It is in an unaltered vintage condition with some wear that is typical for a piece of furniture of its age (see photos) but overall it looks great and is quite gorgeous.
The chest is structurally sound and sturdy and is patterned in the Chippendale style. It has three drawers (all are oak wood interior casings), which function properly and have rabbet dado joints; a sign of better quality furniture. All hardware is original and features brass key escutcheons and brass drop handles. The chest itself is crafted from walnut wood; the outer banding of the chest top and the drawer fronts is Satinwood stringer inlays (see photos). It has a makers mark on the inside of the top drawer (see photo).
