The Famous Teahouse at Maruko, Japanese Woodblock - "The Teahouse at Mariko, no. 21" from the series Fifty Three Stations … Read more The Famous Teahouse at Maruko, Japanese Woodblock - "The Teahouse at Mariko, no. 21" from the series Fifty Three Stations of the Tokaido (Hoeido Tokaido)" - 1833-1843, by reknown Utagawa Hiroshige. (Meibutsu cha-mise).
Depicts a traditional tea house with customers and the owner, baby strapped to her back in a rural setting. In this woodcut, the white vertical sign infront of the teahouse advertises the house’s meibutsu, or specialty: tororo-jiru (a soup made from grated mountain potatoes).
Japanese laid washi paper with very good bleed through and desired barren marks.
Made in Japan 'stamped on paper, just under red sticker #29.
Framed in 1920's - 30's era original black wood frame, under protective glass. Date : Original was 1833, this is a print from early 20th. C.
In very good condition for its age.
This is a highly collectible print.
Signature of Hiroshige on this print - 1832 approx - lower left. Hiroshige b.1797 - d.1858.
On the back of the frame - Geisler Brothers, Pittsburgh Art Dealer label on verso.
Good condition with expected wear to frame.
