This Really is an Absolutely Beautiful Large Antique - Victorian Majolica Seafood Serving Bowl. Circa Late 19th Century. It is Rendered in a Classic Aesthetic Victorian Period Naturalistic Nautical Style. The Bowl is a Abalone Shell that is Footed with 3 Figurative Sea Snail Shells. It is Signed by The Maker J HOLDCROFT ( Joseph Holdcroft )- This Being One of England's Well Documented and Premier Majolica Producers. NOTE Also that it is Embossed with The English Diamond Registry Style Date Marks that I was Able to Decipher and Translate as Follows ---
"IV" Denotes Ceramics, "J" Being the Date Letter for 1880, "2" Being the Day of Month, "W" Being the Month of March ---- Confirming that The Piece was Made on March 2nd 1880. It has Wonderful Detail in the Molded Features and is Hand Decorated in Outstanding - Rich Traditional Majolica Color Combinations that Includes a Wonderful Turquoise Blue Interior. It is in Excellent Cosmetic and Sound Perfectly Usable Condition. It has No Damage - No Chips - No Cracks - No Repairs. It Displays Beautifully. There is a Very Minor and Not at All Noticeable Factory Kiln Flaw on One of the Snail Shell Feet this Being a Under the Glaze Inclusion Confirming that it Would Have Occurred in the Making - This Can Best be Seen in The Last - 12th Photograph in my Listing.
Large Scale - It Measures Overall Approx. 4 1/4 inches Tall x 12 1/2 inches Long x 9 1/4 inches Wide.
