Up for sale is a rare and very beautiful tall porcelain vase finely decorated with flambe glaze,* the rim wrapped with copper, two slightly raised beading lines between the neck and shoulder, overall covered with striking opalescent blue, deep blue and purplish red tones, early to mid19th century, mid Qing Dynasty, hardwood base, in overall good condition, the top rim possibly slightly truncated and thus wrapped with copper ring, former private Upper East Side collection
21 5/8 in. high (without wooden stand)
*Flambe glaze is a distinctive glaze type which consists of a rich, deep-red glaze slashed with streaks of purple and turquoise used to decorate pottery, particularly porcelain. The effect results from a particular method of firing a glaze that incorporates copper; the method was first discovered by the Chinese of the Ming dynasty, probably during the reign of Wan-li (1573-1620).
