Vintage Studio Art Pottery Pitcher with Stopper, Six Cups and Serving Tray signed by Emile Mousseux for Marlotte, 1930s
Extremely rare museum quality, vintage Marlotte Faience (Faiencerie d'art de Marlotte) Pitcher with Stopper, Six Cups and Serving Tray made by Emile Mousseux sometime during the period from 1916 to 1933.
It's one of his artistic sandstone pottery designs with a crystalline glaze - a technique he developed - and is hand thrown in a bulbous form with a flared neck and stopper, and a complete set of matching six cups and serving tray. The decoration features a very deep blue ground with a poured lighter blue glaze with flecks of gold and a lot of variegation. This set has a lot of texture, with a very tactile feel, and has a nice organic quality. A very fine example of an important, and difficult-to-find complete pottery set from the early part of the 20th Century.
Dimensions:
Pitcher and Stopper: 7 ¾ inches high with stopper, 5 inches in diameter (at the handle), 4 inches in diameter (at widest).
Cup: 1 5/8 inches high, 2 inches in diameter (at the handle), 6 cups
Serving Tray: 1 inch high, 9 inches in diameter.
Condition: This set is in excellent original condition, there are some minuscule in-the-making glaze pops to the surface of the serving tray which is common for a flat surface of this size. They are not exposed when the set is displayed with the pitcher and cups.
