In 1644, at the turn of the Ming and Qing dynasties and during great political unrest, exports from the renowned clay mines in China decreased. The Japanese resorted to their own clay deposits, and the city of Arita became the substitute porcelain manufacturer. The porcelain was shipped from Imari port and became known as Imari. These Imari plates reflect the colorful Imari palette of oranges and blues. These plates dates to the 19th century. They are in very good original condition and show wear consistent with age and use.
