Cast in a heavy resin or resin-composite material, the sculpture has been deliberately modeled and patinated to resemble an excavated stone fragment, with a weathered surface, softened details and an irregular broken neck. The effect gives the piece the wonderful archaeological presence of an ancient artifact while remaining a decorative 20th-century reproduction.

The serene face, classical profile and softly modeled hair recall the idealized portrait sculpture of the ancient Mediterranean world. Rather than reproducing the polished appearance of an intact museum statue, the sculptor has emphasized the character of an archaeological fragment, including areas intended to suggest centuries of surface wear.

Substantial for its size, the head displays beautifully on a shelf, console, pedestal or mantel and would also be striking mounted on a simple museum-style stand.

A wonderfully atmospheric piece for a collection mixing classical, Grand Tour, contemporary or modern interiors.

Late 20th century.

Dimensions: approximately 7" W × 6.5" D × 7.5" H.

Very good vintage condition. The distressed, weathered and fragmented appearance is intentional to the design. Please see photographs for surface details. See less
