An American Victorian Rococo Revival carved Walnut bedstead, mid-19th century, attributed to Prudent Mallard, New Orleans.
The is antique has just been completely refinished, with a sophisticate and intricately carved crest over a double panel headboard center between two huge Hexagonal posts with William and Mary accents. Headboard is made off of 5 parts the two post, two panels and the crest, all detachable, making handling very easy. The seven unusual, longitudinal slats are original and look like a platform, making the use of a box spring optional. A modern 12" thick mattress flushes with the top of carved fretwork at the ends of each side rail. The bed measures in 63.5" in width, 79" in in length and 71.5" in height to the of the crest and 23.5" to the top of the footboard. Clearance to bottom of the rail is 9.5". Floor to top of the rail is 18"
