Excellent meissen piece from the time the model was created: four children in festive rural rococo dress on a high, … Read more Excellent meissen piece from the time the model was created: four children in festive rural rococo dress on a high, stepped round pedestal, decorated with a leaf wreath and bow festoon with gold ornamentation, on the pedestal further pedestals of different shapes and heights, on which the children are placed and play music, at the top the horn player, flanked by the flute player and guitarist, behind them the hurdy-gurdy player, between the musicians on the floor a violin, music books, tricorn hat, and a lemonade bottle with glass. Designed by johann joachim kaendler (1706 - 1775): chief sculptor at the meissen manufactory from 1742 to 1775. He is the most famous modeller meissen manufactory ever had and created famous series such as shepherd figurines, comedian's children, gardener children (with acier), paris town criers (with reinicke and meyer) , gallant figurines, etc. Kaendler designed this model circa 1767.
