This very unusual and introspective watercolour is a contemplative piece that invites viewers to ponder the nature of memories and how they come back into our brains. The artist creates a calm atmosphere through the use of pastel hues.
The woman is overrun by a memory that hurt her feelings; either it was a chance encounter that ended or a bad one.
It can be regrets and disappointed hopes, or possibly a late lover, reincarnated, and visiting the woman as a shadow. Unearthing the innermost feelings that linger there, he unveils her inner thoughts, bringing them to the surface through this shadow jumping on her.
Christopher Paul Cobb uses watercolour to add fluidity and subtlety to the piece, creating a sense of introspection and evoking questions about how we remember and understand our past. The artwork is a powerful exploration of the freedom offered by watercolour painting and a unique way of expressing it.
Christopher Paul Cobb is an American artist born in the 20th Century. He is the grandson of baseball great player Ty Cobb. The piece is signed and dated 1995.
