Fantastic Victorian equestrian pin that represents all types of equestrian activities - there is a jockey cap with a cabochon amethyst, a polo stick with a cultured pearl ball, a horse shoe and a hunting horn. The back has a "c" clasp closure.
This Brooch was hand made during the 19th century by one of America’s finest Newark manufactures, Carter, Gough & Co. It is stamped with their hallmark.
Carter, Gough & Co. was founded in the early 1840s. The jewelry firm was based in Newark, New Jersey and remain in operation until the early 1930s. Examples of their pieces can be viewed at the Newark Museum.
