This fabulous brass example embodies the traditional design that typically consists of a perforated or slotted metal container with a long handle. The pierced snowflake pattern on the bulbous heart shaped roaster is especially lovely. The flat brass handle is attached to the roaster by means of two hand-formed flattened brass supports that are flat on the top and spread wide on the inside for support. The handle is unusual in that it is also pierced with a nice geometrical design so it is easy to hold and will not slip from your grasp.

Chestnut Roasting recipe: before roasting, chestnuts should be prepared by making a small incision or X-shaped cut on the flat side of each nut. This helps to release steam during the roasting process and prevents them from exploding. Open the lid or cover of the chestnut roaster and place the prepared chestnuts inside. The roaster can usually hold a dozen or more chestnuts, depending on its size. Place the chestnut roaster over an open flame or heat source, such as a stovetop burner or an open fire to cook the chestnuts inside the roaster. During the roasting process, it's essential to shake or stir the chestnuts inside the roaster regularly to ensure that they roast evenly and helps avoid burning. The chestnuts will turn a dark brown color as they roast, and you'll be able to smell their delicious aroma. Chestnuts are typically roasted for about 15-20 minutes. You can check for doneness by removing one chestnut and opening it to ensure the interior is tender and fully cooked.

Once the chestnuts are roasted to perfection, remove them from the roaster and let them cool slightly. They are best served while still warm!
