The doll is depicting a kneeling woman with a large head wearing traditional Japanese clothes. Originally dolls were enshrined in tea houses or brothels during the Edo period to bring wealth and happiness. In those days, it was considered that would bring youth wealth and happiness. This Doll is from Meiji era (1868-1912). Unlike most Dolls this one is very good condition with minor losses. The wood stand is a wood box from early 20th century to 1960s. Comes from an old collection of Art in Japan. Japan, mid 19th century.
