A one-of-a-kind flat weave kilim, hand-woven in West Anatolia using pure silk on silk — undyed natural warp and weft paired with naturally dyed cobalt blue — this piece translates Paul Klee's 1937 drawing "Letter Ghost (Geist eines Briefes)" into textile form. Produced in the Oushak tradition by our studio weavers over approximately 20 days, it exists as a singular handmade work at the intersection of fine art and Anatolian flat weave craft.
At approximately 4 x 6 ft, this piece functions as a considered focal element in Mid-Century Modern, Bauhaus-influenced, or Organic Modern interiors. The two-tone graphic field reads equally well as a floor installation or framed wall hanging. Its restrained palette and art-historical lineage make it a natural counterpoint to clean-lined furniture and curated art collections.

◆ Color Palette & Design Insight:
The ivory ground of this Oushak kilim recedes with luminous restraint, allowing the cobalt blue figural composition to read with the authority of ink on paper.
(Primary colors: ivory / natural white, cobalt blue)
◆ Motifs & Symbolism:
The central motif directly translates Paul Klee's "Letter Ghost (Geist eines Briefes)" — a semi-figurative face constructed from circular eye forms, a vertical nose axis, a curved mouth, and sweeping diagonal shoulder lines enclosed within a bold rectangular border. In Klee's original work and here in textile form, the image evokes the phantom presence of written language given spectral, almost totemic, human form.

◆ Heritage & Investment Value:
Each Turkish kilim or rug represents a convergence of nomadic craft tradition, natural material mastery, and singular artistic expression. Hand-woven using techniques refined over centuries in Anatolian villages, these works are produced with organic wool and natural dyes — materials that ensure structural integrity and chromatic depth well beyond the lifespan of any machine-made alternative. A vintage Turkish rug is both a curatorial acquisition and a sound design investment: one-of-a-kind, sustainable, and only more valuable with age.
