By the mid-1960s, italian design publisher c&b seized upon and invested in the possibilities offered by this development. The company then asked gaetano pesce, who was interested in new technologies and their potential, to experiment with this material, and he developed the "serie up." the first editions had no supporting structure and consisted of a single block, making the chair easy to transport. Its volume was reduced by vacuum-packing it in airtight packaging. Once placed in the desired location, the buyer removed the packaging from the chair, which then slowly inflated and returned to its original shape and size, thanks to the air entering the cells of the polyurethane foam. Originally produced by c&b, it was removed from the catalog in 1973 due to the presence of freon gas. It reappeared in 2000, manufactured in bayfit and marketed by b&b italia.
