This Late 19th C. Sea Captain's Book Shelf Nautical Ship With Brass Plaque "Reserved for Master" was taken off a ship in Long Beach, California in 1977 when the boat was decommissioned and stripped. My parents purchased a number of items and this book shelf is a great nautical piece of history.
It's very special because of the brass plaque that says "Reserved for Master". It's made of pine and is well-built, very solid and heavy for its size.
You can see the mortise and tenon joinery in the close-up photo.
Please note that at one time there was a wooden bar across the front that kept the books from slipping but this bar is missing. You can see the two slots where it was fitted.
The shelf shows wear consistent with its age and use - please look at the photos carefully. It's got loads of character.
It measures 24" wide by 14' tall by 11.75" deep.
There are holes in the back where you can put screws to hang it to a wall.
