Classic and large English porcelain water jug; elegant and rich blue decorations were executed on the white background using the "transferware" method; while the other ornamental patterns in pure gold were all done by hand; the jug has a slender shape and a wide base to ensure stability, the design as a whole is elegant and detailed, the comfortable handle is shaped in a decorative way to match the overall design of the jug, a combination of refinement, incredible ornamental details and craftsmanship. The jug was created between 1880 and 1890 in a craft workshop in Staffordshire, England. Staffordshire is an English county known for its long tradition of pottery production; it is famous for producing different types of porcelain over the years. There were many famous manufacturers in its area (Wedgwood, Spode, Minton, Royal Doulton, etc.) who contributed to its legacy over the centuries. Transferware refers to the glazed and decorated pottery or porcelain with a specific treatment that they produced in Staffordshire England; they used copper plates on which the design was engraved, the plate was then inked and the design transferred to a special fabric that was later placed on the pottery (plates, jugs, trays, soup tureens, etc.) which was glazed and fired; the first to use this printing process were John Sadler and Guy Verde of Liverpool in 1756. If we look at ceramics made by this method we will notice that the designs are not perfect and often the ink is smudged; this is their characteristic. A hand-painted plate service could afford few English families, with this method even middle-class families could have an ornate plate service and other objects executed by this method. Today, Victorian porcelain jugs are highly prized by antique enthusiasts and collectors. They can be displayed as decorative pieces or used for pouring liquids such as water, juice, or tea. The pitcher has beautiful crazing all over the body that attests to its age and authenticity. On the inside, towards the spout, there is a darker area with speckling due to prolonged use over time. Underneath the base, it has a chip (see photo) that remains invisible when the jug is placed upright. Measures width cm.30, depth cm.20, height cm.31. For all our shipments we use special packaging materials (custom-made wooden crates, Styrofoam, etc.) for maximum protection and safety of the objects
