I was lucky enough to acquire 4 original works by ernest linzell. I bought the paintings based on the quality of work without knowing much about the artist. After doing some research I found a biography that I have included below. Doing even more research I have been able to find some original posters (world war 1 and others), as well as postcards that the artist illustrated. Based on what I have seen and the quality of these paintings, I am guessing that these were done for original posters and post cards. They are all wonderful victorian courting scenes and almost certainly reproduced for a poster, calendar, and or postcard. This is a wonderful watercolor and gouache of a man talking with a woman showing the hearts and initials he carved in the tree - just a great original view. Signed lower right corner. Painting is in stunning condition with no signs of fading. Her baby blue dress painted in watercolor and gouache is still the wonderful color as it was painted. Painting measures 12 1/2 x 8 1/4 inches. Original matte and gold painted frame are complimentary and ready to hang. Frame measures 19 1/2 x 15 1/4 inches. See less
