(English, 1804-1881)
A Gould hummingbird vintage lithograph featuring the Cyanomyia Violiceps, or Violet-Crowned Hummingbird, plate 285 from John Gould’s A Monograph of the Trochilidae, or A Family of Hummingbirds, published in London from 1849-1887.
Gould had a particular fascination with hummingbirds which is reflected in the beauty of this work. He used the technique of applying gold and silver leaf to some of the images to mimic the irridescence of a hummingbird’s wing. This example was originally drawn and colored by John Gould and H.C. Richter.

frame: 19 by 23 inches
This print is in good condition with some toning and some wear to the frame. It was framed at D.J. Healy Shops in Detroit which was in operation from 1910-1962.
