Original Don Quixote Oil Portrait 'El Caballero De La Trista Figura' signed E Cobos, titled and dated Madrid 1962, on the back of the canvas. The subject is posed in armor, gazing into the distance holding his lance.
Its large size and gold frame pay tribute to one of the most popular idealists and fictional characters of the 17th century and still today - written in two parts during the Rennaisance in 1605 and 1615, Don Quixote is often credited as the first modern novel and one of the greatest works ever written.
Nocturne E Cobos is a postwar and contemporary Spanish artist who studied at the Academy of Arts in Madrid and exhibited in London, New York, and Paris. Born and raised in Spain, he would have grown up knowing Miguel de Cervantes' beloved tale of Don Quixote from an early age.
