The FRANCE was launched in 1912, one week after the sinking of the Titanic, and was built in competition with the Titanic in its luxury, particularly in its interior design. Leaving behind the excesses of Victorian design, her interiors were strictly French, earning her the name “Versailles of the Atlantic”. The commemorative trophy celebrated the FRANCE’s record for the fastest transatlantic trip. The black and white photo was taken by a sailor as the FRANCE left port on her maiden voyage. She was easy to spot with four stacks, rather than the typical two or three.

The trophy vase is mounted on a black four-inch square marble base, it stands 11" tall with the opening measuring 4". There are no dents, just one corner nick on the back of the base. The French silversmith’s hallmarks are on the bottom rim, along with “10” which is the French standard representation of the amount of silver used in plating. The smudge mark on the base is just adhesive from an inventory tag, which I will remove.
