This framed watercolour is signed lower right by the American artist J.W. Dunn.
It depicts a thrilling equestrian polo match from the 1930s, featuring four riders in traditional polo uniforms. One team is dressed in red attire, while the other wears yellow. Each rider confidently holds a long stick, already engaged in a fast-paced game. The horses exude energy as they gallop across the scene, with two of them showing intense excitement by pressing their ears tightly against the back of their necks. It's important to note that the 1930s marked the golden era of polo in America. The vibrant and lively essence emanating from this watercolour showcases Dunn's talent to express movement and details. We can see his knowledge of horses' anatomy and his passion for capturing the fastness and the spirit of the sport.
