Minimalism at its purest form, this chaise exemplifies Mr. Van Severen's mantra of functionality, simplicity and precision... the definition of minimalist design.
Introduced at Salone di Mobile in Milan, Italy 1995
MVS CHL95 is perhaps the rarest piece of Maarten Van Severen's oeuvre, the first edition consisted of 2 pieces, each attained by the above mentioned museums... the following editions, very few in number similarly consisted of a handful of pieces, this chair in particular has been in my hands since 2001, I purchased it in Soho, NYC. Although it is indoor/outdoor... this was in use only indoors, in my home for 4 years. It has been in cold storage since 2005. LENSVELT continues to manufacture only via special order. It is particularly rare to find in America..

This Chaise is in excellent condition, minor wear consistent with its short time in use... as photographed above the underneath of the footrest is chipped in one corner and the rubber support of the footrest also shows minor wear..
Maarten Van Severen, an early collaborator of Rem Koolhaas... was the head of the prolific Van Severen family, considered Belgium's royalty of Art and Design, son of Dan the Abstract Artist, brother of Fabian, also a designer, father of Hannes who with his wife Fien Muller founded Muller Van Severen, their furniture is the current talk of the industry and has been featured in every publication of merit.
Among the projects of note Koolhaas (OMA) + MVS collaborated in are Vila dall' Ava (Paris) + Lemoine House or Maison a Bourdeaux (France).
MVS commercial projects include work for Kartell, Vitra, Alessi, Edra, Target
MVS died before his 50th birthday.
