Aluminum housewares became fashionable during the 1930s, at a time when most Americans could not afford luxury metals like silver. At one time there were over 200 companies crafting hand-hammered/hand forged aluminum ware. This beautiful trinket or whatnot box is perfect for safekeeping your small treasures or to simply adorn a vanity or dresser top, as a decorative accent. This beauty is a hand forged piece, circa 1930/1940 with no makers name. Petite-in-size, its artisanal ribbon and rose motif on the lightly hammered and gently serrated top has a great deal of textural and visual interest; the top rests loosely on the bowl. The lightly hammered with gently serrated lipped bowl rests on a cross four petal base, quite unique and lovely! In excellent condition with age-appropriate wear. FYI, abrasive scrubbies and gritty cleaners are to hammered aluminum what wooden stakes are to vampires, never should they cross paths. This beauty measures 5” x 5” x 3¾” W/D/H (height includes the top); interior 4¼” x 4¼” x 1½” W/D/H; weight 6 oz. For a collector of unusual trinket boxes, this beauty does not disappoint!
