Large Antique Woven Japanese Ikebana Vase on Wisteria Stand. Early Meiji period (c. 1870s) with large and thin strips of sooted (susutake) bamboo plaiting. Deep rich reddish brown hue on the bamboo strips. Sits upon a sooted and gnarled wisteria branch. The gourd shape resembles a hornet’s nest. The bottom gourd has an opening with a copper insert sleeve. In very good condition with wear consistent with age.
