Very fine and Caudle cup or porringer, dated 1661, by famed London silversmith Ralph Leeke or Leake.
Caudle cups were used to serve a warmed wine or ale with bread, sugar and spices, to mothers who had just given birth and for initiation ceremonies.
These cups became popular in the mid-17th century, particularly in England.
This is an exceptional example, in nearly perfect condition, quite the survivor.
