My father used to free dive for abalone in the cold waters of Northern California during the time period of 1970’s-1990’s. Abalone was always a treat growing up in my home. As a result I have this beautiful treasure. The shells inner layer, called the nacre or mother of pearl, reveals a rainbow of iridescent colors and it is exquisite. I’ve sanded the edges so that it is smooth and vibrant. I left the outer shell in its original state because the red abalone species is rare and gorgeous. There are some barnacles on the outside that add to its character. You can display on a shelf or use it as a bowl. However you decide to show off this beautiful shell, it’s going to look amazing.
