Played by the incomparable Maya Rudolph, Molly Wells is a character in every sense of the word in the Apple TV+ series, Loot. After divorcing her husband, she finds herself $87 billion richer—a situation we can all surely relate to, at least in our fantasies. Molly has to find her way and discover what she wants to do with her life, starting with her luxe, over-the-top home (again… relatable). To get a sense of how she sees the world and her spaces, we asked Molly all about her personal aesthetic, her favorite vintage finds, and how she keeps a 100,000-square-foot house feeling homey. See what she had to say, and be sure to shop her curation of Chairish favorites for a personal glimpse of her one-of-a-kind style. And of course, to follow along and see how it all turns out… watch Loot, now streaming on Apple TV+.

First and foremost, how would you describe your personal aesthetic? How is that reflected in your home?

My overall aesthetic is fun, vibrant, and colorful. After my recent divorce, I’ve started working at my charity, The Wells Foundation, and I try to give off a positive, approachable vibe, which is what I strive for in my home. I’ve actually had the chance to redecorate recently, given that I’ve donated all of my ex-husband’s furniture to needy communities. Except, of course, for his things that I threw in the pool and/or lit on fire. That stuff got ruined.

Your home is… rather large. How do you shop and design for such a massive space? How do you keep it feeling homey?

I try to keep my expectations reasonable. With 100,000 square feet, I’d burn out if I took on too much. Generally, I’ll do one room a month. For example, June is the Karaoke Room. July is the candy and concessions room right outside my personal theater. August is the secret Karaoke Room that’s only for my very close friends. Don’t ask me where it is! Because honestly, I’ve forgotten.

How do you typically work with designers in creating a look for your spaces that you love?

One of the things we always say at The Wells Foundation is, “let the people who know their job well do their work.” I follow the same rule with my designers. I let them wander around my property and come up with ideas using their own creativity. The problem comes when they get lost in my house. The nightclub area is very confusing. A lot of dark hallways. Luckily, my dogs Mary Kate and Ashley can usually help us track them down.

Are there any dream vintage/antique “gets” you wish you could have? What’s a dream piece for you?

As you can see from my home, I adore marble. I would love to get my hands on one of the Carrara marble statues from Notre Dame. They’d look perfect in my bowling alley, cheering everyone on.

Molly’s Favorites

Favorite paint color:

Green

Favorite style icon:

My assistant Nicholas. He can look good in a winter coat or a speedo, and he actually wore both at the same time for what he called his “21st birthday party.” Coincidentally, his favorite style icon is me, and our longest-running argument is over who’s more stylish and more iconic.

Favorite adult beverage:

My personal chef makes something called the “Molly-tini,” which has vodka, pineapple juice, and is finished off with just a twist of Kit Kat (my favorite candy).

Favorite way to unwind at home:

It’s a five-way tie between having champagne by the upstairs pool, having champagne by the downstairs pool, having champagne by the indoor pool, having champagne by the bedroom pool, or having an IV in the IV room (to restore myself after having too much champagne—it does NOT happen often, but it’s great to have the room ready at a moment’s notice).

Favorite entertaining essential:

The pool remote. Unfortunately, I just can’t find it. I’m sure it fell between the cushions of one of my sofas. Unfortunately, there’s 47 of them.
