Looking for music room ideas that strike a chord with both musicians and design enthusiasts alike? It can be tricky to unite the two, but with a few smart ideas, achieving perfect harmony can be easier than you think. Read on for three tips on how to furnish a music room!

Use instruments as decor

As any musician will tell you, instruments are works of art. With that in mind, don’t stow them in the closet — display them! It’s easy to pop guitars and other hand-held string instruments on the walls with hooks, making them not only visible, but easily accessible as well. For floor instruments like drums, don’t sequester them away in a corner. Instead, arrange them like a legitimate piece of furniture and design around them with intention. For a guitar on a floor stand, create a vignette with an accent chair and floor lamp to give it more visual weight.

Music-themed art

If your music room’s walls aren’t filled with instruments alone, try outfitting them with music-themed art. Whether you opt for black and white photographs of music icons like Diana Ross, Bob Dylan, and Johnny Cash or spring for framed album covers — or even the records themselves — nothing adds ambiance to a music room like themed artwork. Don’t overlook the option of old concert posters, either. When framed, these pieces can lend your space the look and feel of an authentic concert hall or dive venue.

Storage

Nothing curbs creativity like clutter, so make storage a priority in your music room. Old steamer trunks are perfect for storing large-scale musical gear while also evoking an authentic rock and roll air. Storage ottomans can function similar to trunks, while also offering a place for musicians and groupies alike to sit. If you’re storing records in your music room, consider bookshelves outfitted with cross-brace shelving. It’s a high-impact architectural move that’s also supremely functional.
