Heather Dawn Batchelor is an American abstract painter whose work is rooted in a deep sense of place — from the quiet fields of Indiana where she grew up to the luminous landscapes of Silver Springs, Florida, where she now lives and paints. She studied art at the Herron School of Art and Design and later completed her degree at IUPUI, drawing early inspiration from both classical training and contemporary abstraction.

She divides her time between Silver Springs and her family’s farm in Southern Indiana, moving between tropical light and rolling Midwestern farmland. Raised in Indianapolis and later in Boone County’s horse country, she carries both the calm of rural fields and the vibrant color of Florida into her paintings.

Her work blends gesture, color, and atmospheric layers to create contemporary impressions of landscapes, coastlines, and remembered places. Influenced by Abstract Expressionism and the emotional luminosity of the Hudson River School, her paintings explore the tension between chaos and clarity, expressing the way certain places stay with us long after we’ve moved through them.
