    About

Bold colors, sensual textures and graphic possibilities are the signature elements of a Gary McBournie interior. Gary’s study of design, painting and art history is clearly evident in his warm and elegant style. He strives to provide his clients with what can best be described as classic American design with a subtle twist on tradition.

Gary McBournie Inc. was established in 1993 and focuses on residential design around the world. While supported by his own team of interior designers, Gary strategically employs his hand-selected cache of outside resources to provide site-appropriate architecture, inspired backgrounds and luxurious custom upholstery. Each project is finished with a final layer of art and unique decorative objects which results in a home that is personal reflection of the client.

Throughout his life, travel, has been a major passion of Gary’s. When not on a job site, he can be found scouting the antique districts in London, rummaging in the flea markets in Paris, exploring the medieval hilltop villages of Provence……well place your finger on a map and he may just be there. Much to his clients’ delight, this passion translates into his ability to deliver distinctively inspired interiors.

In the last several years, Gary’s projects have included multiple homes in the exclusive Mill Reef Club in Antigua, a luxury motor yacht based in the Mediterranean, a ski house in Montana, a loft in Los Angeles as well as several homes in Boston, Palm Beach and Nantucket, where he also maintains offices. Many of these engagements are additional projects for long-term clients—a testament of their trust and appreciation for Gary’s ability to breath life into a home.

Gary’s interiors are regularly featured in major design publications such as House Beautiful and Traditional Home. A number of his projects as well as several of his own homes have been featured in various design style books. In 2009, Gary McBournie was inducted into the New England Design Hall of Fame.

In September 2013, Pointed Leaf Press released Gary's first book "Living Color: A Designer Works Magic With Traditional Interiors".
