About

I am a self-taught abstract artist that has been painting for 30 years. I was inspired to paint after being introduced to the cubistic artwork of the late Herman Somberg, a member of the Cedar Bar art scene in Greenwich Village, New York. A friendship was established with his wife, Emilia (Melitta), and I was able to study Herman's works up close in their home in Northeast, Minneapolis. Analytical and synthetic cubism paintings emerged of still-lifes, landscapes, and musical themes. My most recent work has incorporated geometric and mid-century modern imagery. I have participated in many solo exhibitions, numerous group shows and my paintings are in private collections throughout the U.S. as well as some international collections.
My work explores concepts or challenges to the conventional forms of representation. Being a self-taught artist, I have engaged my own intuitions and perceptions of the creative process. The challenge or continued pursuit for me is to discover something fresh or unique that represents and reflects creativity, purpose, and value. With this is mind, I enjoy trying new things and allowing the discovery process to encourage and motivate me to continue.
