I usually do not do what people call "normal" pieces - I do the unique, the special, the unusual, the one of a kind you'll never see anywhere else! Does that mean pieces stay with me longer? of course it does! But that special and unique will speak to someone the way it spoke to me, and it will have a new home where it will be appreciated, enjoyed and spoken about! When was the last time you commented on a piece of furniture? I guarantee you, your friends and your guests will comment on any piece you purchase from me!
Retirement from the working world brought me time - and boredom! I remain active but wanted something to really take hold of my mind as well as my hands.
I saw a few posts on FB about re-making furniture - and said to myself "why not? Looks like fun, something different, and easy to do!". It is fun, it is different, but it is NOT easy! And that makes it perfect for me. I wanted/needed something challenging, and re-designing furniture can certainly be that.
Some pieces I work on are simple and easy - a little touch up here/there, some good wax, and it's ready to go. Most are not -
I usually work with pieces that have large scale damage and need extensive repair work prior to working with the pretty part, and that's the challenge.
I extensively use decoupage rice paper and paint to create that unique and unusual - for my pet products I use peel and stick wallpaper for cleanability and durability.
