Dimensions. … Read more The actor Nakamura Shikan, color woodcut, probably from the series "9 Dances", Mid-19th Century, realized by Utagawa Kunisada (1786-1865). Dimensions. 38x26.5cm, unframed, mounted on paper, probably trimmed, soiled. Very minor discolorations. Gawa Kunisada, also known as Utagawa Toyokuni III (Edo, 1786 - Edo, January 12, 1865) was a Japanese draftsman. He was one of the most famous Ukiyo-e woodblock print designers of 19th-century Japan. He was the head of one of the most important Japanese woodblock printing schools, the Utagawa School. In his time, his reputation far surpassed that of his contemporaries, Hokusai, Hiroshige and Kuniyoshi. This piece is attributed to the mentioned designer/maker. It has no attribution mark and no
official proof of authenticity,
