Sea horses is an etching realized by Giovanni Morghen, in the 18th Century. Hand watercolor d'apres. 12x23 cm. Good conditions. Giovanni Morghen ( 1721- after 1789) , together with Francesco La Vega, Camillo Paderni, Nicola Vanni and others, was one of the designers who collaborated in the creation of The Antiquities of Herculaneum on display, the most important archaeological work of the eighteenth century. The original plan envisaged 40 widely illustrated volumes which disseminated the results of the excavations of Pompeii and Herculaneum: only 8 were published between 1757 and 1792. This piece is attributed to the mentioned designer/maker. It has no attribution mark and no
official proof of authenticity,
however it is well documented in design history. I take full responsibility for any authenticity
